Vestibular Rehabilitation
Vestibular rehabilitation is an exercise-based program, designed by a specialized physical therapist, to improve balance and reduce dizziness-related problems. Patients typically referred for vestibular rehabilitation therapy are those diagnosed with dizziness, imbalance, vertigo, Meniere’s disease, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), neck-related dizziness and migraines.
At PhysioCare & Rehab, we provide research-based assessment and treatment for vestibular disorders using infrared goggle technology. Vestibular organ and eye reflexes are intimately connected. Close examination of abnormal eye movement (also called “nystagmus”) allows an accurate diagnosis to be made. Once the source of the symptoms is determined, a customized treatment plan is implemented. The goal of your personalized treatment plan is to improve any deficits that were identified. This will improve your ability to function in activities of daily living, reducing your risk for falls, and ultimately, improve your quality of life.
Expected vestibular rehabilitation outcomes include:
- Decreased falls risk
- Decreased dizziness symptoms
- Improved balance
- Improved ability to stabilize vision/gaze
- Increased body strength
- Return to prior level of movement/function
- Improved neck motion, reduced symptoms
